About this flight
To experience a flight with Qatar Airways, known for offering one of the world's top-tier services, as well as the lounge at Hamad International Airport in Doha (Qatar’s capital), I flew from Narita to Doha in Qatar Airways business class.
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were very few travelers, and Narita Airport was quite deserted.
The flight in Qatar Airways business class was very comfortable — the cabin crew provided refined service, and the meals were delicious.

JAL First Class Lounge

Entering the JAL First Class Lounge.
Although my ticket was for business class, the business class lounge was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so business class passengers were allowed to use the first class lounge at that time.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, acrylic dividers have been placed on the tables.

Displayed in the lounge hallway are vintage postcards from JAL’s serviced cities.
Since JAL has been operating international flights since 1954, a variety of rare old postcards are showcased.

Ordering App

Due to COVID-19, meals must be ordered through an app — this screen says "Order/Reserve."
When ordered from the app, meals are brought directly to your seat.
Meal Ordered (1)

I ordered via the app, and the meal was brought to me.
- • Bagna càuda-style vegetables
- • Ramen
- • JAL’s beef curry rice
Meal Ordered (2)

The main dish was carbonara, topped with white cheese.
For dessert, I had taiyaki (a fish-shaped pastry with filling).
Sushi Bar (1)

As the sushi was made by a sushi chef, I received hand-formed nigiri sushi.
Sushi Bar (2)

In addition to the earlier nigiri, I had anago (sea eel), and what seemed to be tai (sea bream) as white fish.
I also received a hand roll sushi.

Leaving the Lounge

Since the lounge was scheduled to close around 7:00 p.m. due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I left the lounge and went for a walk around the terminal until the departure time for Doha around 10:00 p.m.
Exploring the Airport

As you can see, this was during the pandemic, so there were very few travelers, and there was hardly anyone walking around — it felt almost empty.
Departure Lobby

This is the departure immigration lobby, but there's no one here.
It’s truly a lonely and quiet scene.
Corridor

Even walking through the corridors, there’s not a single person in sight.

Dinner – Appetizer

First, I had a chickpea soup as an appetizer. The bread was served as a trio, connected together. In the back, you can see olive oil and butter.
Menu

This is the menu for the day. The left page lists the dinner options, and the right page shows the snacks and breakfast selections.
There were many choices, which made it hard to decide what to pick.
Breakfast (1)

This was a Japanese-style breakfast served before arrival — very much like a home-cooked meal.
- • Salt-grilled silver salmon
- • Simmered vegetables and Japanese omelet
- • Ume-shiso rice
Also served: croissant, yogurt with granola, and fruit.
Breakfast (2)

This was the breakfast my travel companion had.
- • Creamed spinach and scrambled eggs

- • Possibly butter-sautéed potatoes and mushrooms
Also included: croissant, yogurt with granola, and fruit.
Dessert

This was the final dessert — a strawberry tart.
Chocolate Service

As a memento of the flight, Godiva chocolates were handed out to business class passengers.
