About this flight
The KLM Royal Dutch Airlines routes from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore to Jakarta, despite being short flights, offer the highest-grade business class products and services typically reserved for long-haul routes. These are special flights that aviation enthusiasts truly appreciate.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, these routes have been suspended, but we hope to see them resume soon. (Note: KLM does not offer a First Class cabin.)
This is a flight review of KLM Business Class from Jakarta (Indonesia) to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) — a flight of approximately 2 hours.
In May 2016, since Jakarta Airport’s new Terminal 3 was still under construction, this flight departed from Terminal 2.

Terminal 2

This is Terminal 2 of Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in Jakarta.
As of June 2016, KLM operated its flights from this terminal. However, after the completion of Terminal 3 in August 2016, operations were moved there. (This view can no longer be seen, so it feels very nostalgic.)
SkyPriority

This is the SkyPriority lane at the check-in counter.
First and Business Class passengers, as well as elite members of the SkyTeam global airline alliance, are eligible for expedited services.
Garuda Indonesia Airlines Counter

Next to the KLM check-in counters was the First Class check-in area for Garuda Indonesia Airlines during the Terminal 2 era.
This photo was taken as a memento. Garuda Indonesia also relocated to Terminal 3 later on.

Carry-On Baggage

This is the tag for carry-on luggage. As KLM and Air France are in an alliance, it’s interesting to note that even when flying with KLM, Air France-branded tags are used.

This is the sign at the entrance of the lounge. It indicates that the lounge is available for First Class and Business Class passengers, as well as elite members of Garuda Indonesia and elite members of the SkyTeam alliance.
Beer

This is the beer I had inside the lounge—Indonesia’s Bintang Beer. Indonesia generally doesn’t serve alcohol casually. Alcohol is quite restricted, and purchasing it can be a bit difficult. In this lounge, the only alcoholic option available was beer, so that’s what I had.
Paper Napkins

Neatly arranged paper napkins were provided.

Full Meal

I ordered the low-fat meal for today’s in-flight meal.
- • (Main)Sautéed salmon with tomato sauce, potatoes, and steamed vegetables
- • Tuna and vegetable salad
- • Fresh fruit
- • Bread
The salmon appetizer seemed to be the same as on the outbound flight, so I suspect the meals were loaded round-trip in Malaysia, likely due to the short flight time of about two hours.

Ceiling Lights

We arrived safely at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
The ceiling lighting was designed to resemble stars. I heard that the airport was designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa.
