About this flight
This is an ANA business class flight from New York’s John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport to Haneda, departing at 2:00 a.m.
ANA operates out of Terminal 7 at JFK Airport and was using the British Airways (BA) lounge. Since BA relocated to Terminal 8 in December 2020, I had the opportunity to see what lounge ANA passengers now use.
The business class seat on ANA’s New York route aboard the Boeing 777-300ER was a wide and spacious seat, offering plenty of room.
For breakfast before landing at Haneda, I chose the Japanese meal. Each item was thoughtfully prepared, and everything was absolutely delicious.

Terminal 7

This is the departure entrance of Terminal 7 at JFK Airport. I arrived by hired car from Manhattan and got off at the front entrance.
Until 2020, this terminal served as the hub for British Airways (BA), but BA has since moved to Terminal 8, where American Airlines operates.
As for Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), it went bankrupt in 2022 and is currently being restructured under a consortium backed by Air France–KLM and others. As a result, it withdrew from Star Alliance, despite being one of its five founding members—marking the first time a founding airline has left the alliance.
Departure Lobby

Inside the terminal, this is the departure board in the lobby. My flight to Tokyo Haneda was scheduled to depart at 2:00 a.m.
Looking at the board, I arrived at 10:51 p.m., and there weren’t many remaining flights for the day.
Check-in Counter

This is the information board for the check-in counters. It indicates that ANA, Ethiopian Airlines, and Kuwait Airways check in here.

Next to the First Class counter is the Business Class check-in counter.
Immigration Gate

This is the entrance to the departure immigration area.
Boarding Pass

Here’s the boarding pass. Since this was my first time using JFK Airport after the closure of the British Airways lounge, I was curious to see what had replaced it. The boarding pass indicated access to a new lounge called "Horizons First Lounge." As a Diamond member, I was eligible to use the First Class lounge.
To the Lounge

After clearing security, I took this short escalator up toward the lounge.
Escalator to the Lounge

There's another short escalator leading to the lounge area. A sign shows directions for both the Horizons Lounge and the Alaska Airlines Lounge.
Speaking of Alaska Airlines, in December 2023, it announced its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines. Alaska is a mid-sized U.S. airline that doesn’t currently operate long-haul routes. Through this acquisition, it hopes to gain expertise in long-haul operations, such as those to Japan and South Korea. For now, both airlines are expected to continue operating under their respective brand names.

Horizons Lounge

This is the Horizons Lounge, also referred to as the T7 Lounge. It’s operated by the management company of JFK Airport.
Up until 2020, this space was used as the British Airways (BA) Lounge. It seems that the lounge has been repurposed using much of the same facilities, with only the branding and a few other elements updated.
Alaska Airlines Lounge

This is the entrance to the Alaska Airlines lounge, located next to the Horizons Lounge.
As many people may already know, despite the name "Alaska Airlines," its base of operations is not in Alaska but in Seattle, which is also its main hub airport.
Entrance

At the entrance of the Horizons Lounge, there is a sign displaying the ANA logo.
In addition to ANA, the following airlines also use this lounge:
- ・ Condor Airlines, Kuwait Airways, Icelandair, LOT Polish Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines
Entrance Logo

This is the logo displayed on the wall at the entrance of the Horizons Lounge.
Complimentary Chocolates

Next to the lounge, individually wrapped chocolates were offered.
It was "After Eight," a popular mint chocolate in New York made of dark chocolate filled with mint cream. Its refreshing mint flavor makes it a favorite.

Inside the Lounge

This is a mobile serving cart located near the entrance of the First Class Lounge.
Three Types of Potato Chips

Further inside the lounge, three different types of potato chips were available.
Liquor Station

This is the liquor station. In the foreground are four bottles of red wine, with white wine and sparkling wine further back.
On the far side, there’s a selection of spirits, including whiskey, liqueurs, vodka, and gin.
White Wine and Sparkling Wine

In the cylindrical wine coolers at each corner are bottles of white and sparkling wine.
In the center is ZARDETTO, an Italian sparkling wine.
When this was the British Airways lounge, the cooler used to be filled with ice and stocked with champagne.
While sparkling wine is also delicious, there’s a noticeable difference.
Salad and Hot Dishes

- Left: Salad
- Right:
- ・ Rice
- ・ Curry
- ・ Roasted chicken leg
This is American-style flavor, and it's genuinely delicious.
Salad Bar

The salad bar with dressings available:
- ・ Cherry tomatoes, olives, julienned carrots, cucumbers
- ・ Boiled eggs, red onions, beets, arugula, and lettuce
- ・ Fusilli (spiral-shaped pasta, also known in Japan as "curl macaroni")
- ・ Cold pasta options as well – also very tasty.
Snacks Corner

- Left: Twinings tea and flavored teas
- Center: Soup jars
- Right: Snacks and treats, including chocolate-covered nuts, salted green peas, and dried fruit
Japanese Cup Noodle Service

Available only for ANA passengers – Nissin cup noodles:
- ・ Seafood Noodle
- ・ Curry Noodle
Previously, this lounge offered bread from a Japanese bakery in New York, which has since closed. This may be a substitute, offering Japanese tastes for those on business trips or expats in New York.
Wine Server

This is a wine dispenser. It keeps wine at a preset temperature and pours a set amount with the push of a button.
Departure Board

Another area in the lounge. The right side displays upcoming flight departures, and the left side features lockers for luggage storage.
My Meal

Here’s what I enjoyed:
- ・ Two types of sparkling wine, three types of red wine
- ・ Roasted chicken leg
- ・ Fresh salad

Wide Seat

This is my seat for today—Business Class 16G, a center seat. Here are the provided amenities:
- ・ Globe-Trotter amenity kit
- ・ Pillow, cushion, bed pad, blanket, slippers
- ・ Headphones
The wide seat is extremely spacious, offering ample width even for larger passengers. In terms of seat width alone, it’s the same as First Class. ANA makes efficient use of cabin space by arranging seats to face both forward and backward. During takeoff and landing, a shoulder harness is provided, so there’s no issue. This kind of width in Business Class might be unique to ANA on a global scale.
Seat Screen

This is the 24-inch 4K large monitor located in front of the seat.
Side Table

The meal menu, headphones, and a bottle of mineral water were placed here.
Amenity Kit

After takeoff, I opened the amenity kit, which included:
- ・ Eye mask, toothbrush set, earplugs
- ・ Lip balm, moisturizing cream
Shortly after, the amuse-bouche was served. I also received a glass of champagne.

Amuse-Bouche and Champagne

Champagne and amuse-bouche:
- ・ A salad of cherry tomatoes and mushrooms (most likely)
- ・ Bruschetta topped with what seems to be ham and dried fruit
Hot Sandwich and Ramen

Next, I enjoyed:
- ・ A hot sandwich
- ・ Ippudo’s plant-based ramen
Post-Nap Drink

Since the flight departed New York around midnight, I slept deeply after the meal. When I woke up, it was already about two hours before landing. I had a Coke and sparkling water to refresh myself.
Japanese Breakfast

For breakfast, I chose the Japanese-style meal:
- ・ White rice, Saikyo-style grilled white fish, simmered vegetables (carrot, green beans, burdock root)
- ・ Salad, tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet), shiitake mushroom, apricot, etc.
- ・ Pickled Chinese cabbage and eggplant
- ・ Boiled spinach and shimeji mushrooms with salmon roe
- ・ Clear soup
Pre-Landing Service

After breakfast and just before landing, a flight attendant came to express their thanks for flying with ANA.
- ・ I received a small gift set of chocolate, biscuits, candy, and a postcard.
Haneda Airport

Arrival at Terminal 2

I arrived at Haneda Airport. It was my first time arriving at Terminal 2 on an international flight. The walking distance is definitely shorter, so for those heading home by monorail or limousine bus, it’s incredibly convenient.
Connecting Flight

Since I had a connecting flight at Terminal 3, I followed the signs in that direction.
Transfer and Immigration Guidance

Passengers connecting to Terminal 3 proceed straight ahead on the right-hand side, while those entering Japan go up the escalator on the left.
To Terminal 3 (1)

I’m heading straight toward the bus stop for Terminal 3.
To Terminal 3 (2)

I’m walking toward the bus stop area. I’ll be transferring to a flight bound for Seoul Gimpo.
