About this flight

I flew from Narita to Singapore with Scoot Airlines, a low-cost carrier based in Singapore. The business class is branded as “ScootBiz.”

At the time of travel, early booking meant I could get a one-way ticket for around 35,000 yen, which is incredibly affordable. The seat was comparable to premium economy class, making it a great value option for flying to Singapore.

There was a bit of an incident during the flight — as we approached Singapore airspace, a heavy tropical downpour (squall) prevented immediate landing. We had to circle in a holding pattern for a while, but thankfully we landed safely in the end.

Boarding Gate

搭乗口

This flight departs from Narita Airport Terminal 1. The yellow tail visible through the window belongs to the Scoot aircraft. Since lounge service wasn’t available, I headed directly to the boarding gate.

Impact of COVID-19

搭乗口

At the time (January 2023), the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic were still present, so there were few international travelers. You can see a Singapore Airlines aircraft parked in the background.

This is the Scoot aircraft I boarded that day, with its distinctive yellow stripe. It was likely a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

It features a yellow stripe across the backrest.

Business Class Cabin

ビジネスクラスの機内

The business class cabin, called "ScootBiz," uses seats similar in quality and size to premium economy on other airlines.

The configuration is 2-3-2, with leather seats, a seat pitch of 96 cm, and fully adjustable headrests.

Snack and Drink Menu

スナックとドリンクのメニュー

Before takeoff, the snack and drink menu was handed out.

  • • In economy class, meals, snacks, and drinks are paid options.
  • • In business class, one meal, one snack, and one alcoholic drink are included. Additional items are chargeable.

Cockpit

コックピット

Since it was before takeoff, the cockpit door was open.

This is the partition between the front row of business class and the cockpit/galley area.

Wi-Fi Service

Wi-Fiサービス

A QR code was provided to access in-flight Wi-Fi.

It likely allows access to various programs and internet browsing.

ANA Aircraft

From the seat window, I could see an ANA aircraft parked next to the Scoot plane.

The aircraft began taxiing. This photo shows the parking area.

The aircraft was taxiing from the apron toward the runway.

White Jumbo Jet Without Windows (1)

窓のない白いジャンボジェット

From the window, I spotted a strange Boeing 747 jumbo jet. It was painted entirely white and had no windows. However, it had a U.S. flag and a registration number, so it appears to be in active use.

(Editor’s note: It is likely a U.S.-based cargo aircraft.)

“NARITA”

While taxiing on the runway, I spotted the word “NARITA” formed by neatly planted trees.

Window Electronic Shade (1)

We’ve taken off.

The Boeing 787 has no traditional window shades. Instead, it features “electronic shades” that allow passengers to adjust the brightness in 5 levels using a button.

I slightly dimmed the window using the electronic shade and took a photo of the clouds. It turns blue like this.

This photo was also taken with the window slightly dimmed using the electronic shade.

Passengers in ScootBiz receive one complimentary in-flight meal. In addition, the following items are included for free:

  • • Water
  • • One alcoholic drink
  • • Cookies (in the blue packet)
  • • A voucher for 30MB of internet access

Since one alcoholic drink is free, I got both red and white wine by using my companion’s allowance as well.

Main Course

メイン料理

The main dish consisted of pork and shiitake mushrooms served over rice. The flavor was a Southeast Asian-style soy sauce with spices.

Beer and Nuts

ビールとナッツ

After the in-flight meal, I started feeling a bit hungry again, so I ordered beer and nuts.

A wet towel was also provided as part of the service.
